Actions to feel better

Feeling blue/down-in-the-dumps/ennui?

  1. Take a walk in nature
  2. Take a walk to somewhere where you can appreciate the view
  3. Put on some music and dance for 5-10 minutes
  4. Every day do something that you normally enjoy– whether you feel like it or not
  5. Make plans to do things with friends – and keep the plans
  6. Talk to people who have experienced something similar
  7. Read an engaging book
  8. Find things you can be grateful for and write them down at bedtime

 

If you experience these symptoms persistently for two weeks:

  • Hopelessness, deep apathy, despair, feeling “empty”
  • Low mood that interferes with daily activities
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities you once enjoyed
  • Feelings of worthlessness, or excessive or inappropriate guilt
  • Difficulty thinking or concentrating
  • Fatigue – difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much
  • Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide

You may be experiencing depression. There are actions that can help – you may benefit from professional assistance. Feelings can change. Consult a doctor or therapist.
